The Relationship between Madden–Julian Oscillation Moist Convective Circulations and Tropical Cyclone Genesis

چکیده
The Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO) is a planetary-scale weather system that creates 30–60 day oscillation in zonal winds and precipitation the tropics. Its envelope of enhanced rainfall forms over Indian Ocean moves slowly eastward before dissipating near Date Line. MJO modulates tropical cyclone (TC) genesis, intensity, landfall Indian, Pacific, Atlantic Oceans. This study examines mechanisms by which alters TC genesis. In particular, circulations are partitioned into Kelvin Rossby waves for each developing, mature, stages convective envelope, locations genesis related to these circulations. Throughout MJO’s life cycle, inhibited east just west envelope. inhibition largely due vertical motion associated with wave circulation, as enhancement during developing stage. During mature stages, gyres intensify, creating regions low-level vorticity, favoring its west. Over 36-year period considered here, modulation increases intensification circulation.

Predicting Tropical Cyclone Genesis
The long-term goal of this project is to provide probabilistic genesis forecast guidance to operational forecasters and develop a genesis index to provide guidance for operational dynamical model prediction of tropical cyclone (TC) genesis. Once regions of high TC genesis probability are identified, a movable, multi-nested version of the COAMPS with resolution of roughly 3 km or less in the inn...
متن کاملImproving our Understanding of Tropical Cyclone Genesis
The primary question to be addressed is to understand the mesoscale and microphysical differences between cloud clusters that do develop into tropical cyclones and those that do not. Because the problem is not just an issue of the differences of structure within the cloud cluster itself, but is also an issue of how the cloud cluster interacts with the surrounding large-scale environment, a two-...
متن کاملMesoscale Interactions in Tropical Cyclone Genesis
With the multitude of cloud clusters over tropical oceans, it has been perplexing that so few develop into tropical cyclones. The authors postulate that a major obstacle has been the complexity of scale interactions, particularly those on the mesoscale, which have only recently been observable. While there are well-known climatological requirements, these are by no means sufficient. A major rea...
